1. If only I knew the right words to say
I’d tell you just why I feel blue.
I’m frightened that one day you’ll go away
And none of my dreams will come true.
2. This isn’t turning out the way I planned;
I really need to make myself heard.
Maybe a poet will give me a hand to help you understand,
Or I could copy out some of their words.
Oh, I’m tongue-tied; I just can’t seem to get my words out.
And I’m too shy to look in your eyes and there’s no doubt
I don’t know how to play this game:
I sometimes forget my own name.
3. I gathered my thoughts and then I wrote them down,
And read them out is what I tried to do.
But frozen and helpless, I couldn’t make a sound
When I was standing in front of you.
I’m tongue-tied; I just can’t seem to get my words out.
And I’m too shy to look in your eyes and there’s no doubt
I don’t know how to play this game:
I sometimes forget my own name.
If this romance ever stood a chance, it’d be here right under our noses.
Maybe it’s time I put my feet on the ground, woke up smelled the roses.
Well, I’m tongue-tied; I just can’t seem to get my words out.
And I’m too shy to look in your eyes and there’s no doubt
I don’t know how to play this game:
I sometimes forget my own name.
